1920s. In northeastern Oklahoma, members of the Osage Indian tribe are murdered after becoming rich from oil found on their land. Bureau of Investigation agent Tom White is assigned to look into the circumstances of the case. Among the main suspects - a World War I veteran Ernest Burkhart, married to a woman from a wealthy Indian family Mollie, and his uncle, landowner and cattle rancher William Hale, nicknamed King. It was Hale who convinced his nephew to ask Mollie to marry him, so that the rights to the oil land would one day pass to their family....
