The events unfold during the Napoleonic wars. Captain of the British Navy - brave Jack Aubrey and his friend - a ship doctor named Stephen Maturin receive a dispatch, where the order is to find and neutralize the French ship "Acheron". Destruction of this ship should fundamentally affect the course of the war. However, "Acheron" is the first to find the ship of Captain Jack and insidiously attacking them. After the attack, HMS (Her Majesty's Ship) "Surprise" loses a lot of crew members and suffers severe damage.
