The film is set in Los Angeles in 1991, in the Persian Gulf war. The main character nicknamed "Dude" played by Jeff Bridges, finds himself absolutely happy. His life is one vacation, drinks and a game of bowling. But his happiness is abruptly broken, the gangsters mistakenly take him for a millionaire, they expect money from him, about which he knows nothing, and, to all the kidnapped wife of a millionaire, being reasonably sure that her "husband" will pay any amount. In the course of history appear before the audience a variety of eccentric characters, plot twists, and eventually comes to an unexpected outcome.
