The plot centers on the first ever class action sexual harassment case. It is known as the "Lois E. Jenson vs. Eveleth Taconite Co." The heroine of the film "North Country" - Josey Aimes (Charlize Theron) - returns to her hometown in northern Minnesota and takes a job at a mine, the main local enterprise. The girl's father is ashamed of her, because Josey got pregnant early, and considers his daughter frivolous. At the new place of work Josey becomes the object of ridicule and provocations of her former buddy Bobby Sharp. Attempts to stop the harassment only worsen the situation.
