The film takes place in the early eighties in Gotham City. Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) is a comedian living with a seriously ill mother. A woman always taught him to live with a smile, not paying attention to anything. That is why he chose such a profession for himself, thinking that he would give this world smiles and fun. Arthur has always tried to bring the good into the world and give joy to those around him. However, he faced only human cruelty and indifference. This is what makes him reconsider his views on the world around him. From now on, he clearly decided for himself that he would give this cruel world not a good smile, but the grin of a villain whom everyone would know as a Joker...
