The young aristocrat Louis loses his wife and child, and then he had lost all desire to live. Soon Louis meets the present vampire Lestat, who turns it into his own kind. But for a long time, Louis could not bring himself to kill, so feeds on the blood of rats. They travel with Lestat and one day find themselves in New Orleans, where the plague is rampant.
