A film directed by Ridley Scott. The scenario is based on the war between the Kingdom of Jerusalem and the Ayyubids and the siege of Jerusalem.
Godfrey, Baron of Ibelin, returns to his homelands of Southern France in 1184 to find his illegitimate son. And he finds him, it is the blacksmith Balian. Most recently, he had a grave misfortune: his child died after birth and his wife ended her life by suicide. The Baron invites him to follow him with a squad of crusaders to the Holy Land together. Balian goes to Messina for his father. Balian's father is injured and soon dies. He manages to knight Balian and declares him his heir. Baron of Ibelin finds himself in Jerusalem, torn apart by a power struggle and intrigue between King Baldwin IV, a supporter of a peaceful resolution of conflicts, and the aggressive Templars led by Guy de Lusignan.
